Fine Art: Early Multipanel Watercolors, circa 2000–2006
After working on a range of subject matter, I came upon this mulitipanel format that allowed me to conjoin and juxtapose imagery. I was inspired by the microclimates of southern Oregon where, in one afternoon, I experienced blooming orchids, snowy fields and hot sandstone gullies. Beautiful combinations ensued. Two months later, the horrors of 9/11 slammed up against my relative well-being. I began to jam luminosity against darkness.
These compositions are improvised until late in the process when I choose how much of any section to include and splice it all together. In the presence of complexity, I hope to create a calmness of mind that is nonetheless fully aware of nuance and shift, one that has both repose and dynamic energy.
